My Mom’s Story

In the year 1993 my mom was fighting with suicidal thoughts and depression due to various illness in her body and a lot of issues within her marriage. It was at that point that someone invited my mom to a prayer gathering to come and see what Jesus can do for her. She knew nothing about Jesus but as a last resort, she went to this prayer gathering that she has been invited for.

And guess what! There was a young man singing songs of Jesus with a big smile on his face and expressing his joy with complete abandon.
Out of curiosity and even a bit of jealousy, my mom uttered these words in her heart “How can this man be so joyful and happy? If this God can also give me this joy and happiness then I will worship this God the rest of my life.

And Behold! She was filled with the joy of the Lord from that very moment.

Some of you might wonder what kind of joy is it that I am talking about. It is the joy and peace which surpasses all human understanding and can’t be found in the things of this world and cannot be brought at any price. It is a joy that radiates, a joy that doesn’t extinguish based on circumstances, but a joy that brings strength and endless hope.

25 years ago this road that you see above did not exist. It was a cracked, muddy trail and this place was not accessible for any kind of commute. Yet my mother walked miles weekly to take me and my elder sister Kala to attend the Sunday worship service. It was not so easy to seek God but she made a choice to worship Jesus and proclaim the gospel.

The rest is history. My mother has led many to Christ and has been leading a church along with my dad in Thane, Mumbai.

Currently many people argue and debate whether it’s right for a women to preach or lead a church. This isn’t a post to debate on that.

However when I think of women of God, I am reminded about these incredible two women who lived in the time of Jesus and they preached in such a way that the whole remanent of mankind was introduced to Jesus and salvation was proclaimed to everyone.

Firstly, the Samaritan women’s story which goes like this, “Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” They came out of the town and made their way toward him.” John:4:28-30 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” John:4:39

Secondly, Mary Magdalene’s testimony of the risen saviour:
” The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.” Matthew:28:5-8

In one of his parables, Jesus said whosoever’s sin was forgiven much, loves much. This love is visible through their lives.

How can someone contain within themselves what Jesus has done in their lives?
When my sins are forgiven in a greater measure then my love for Jesus will also be greater. And I can’t and won’t stop sharing the good news of being saved and being loved by Jesus.

My mom has been a role model for especially me and many others to extravagantly love Jesus. When the most expensive perfume was broken at the feet of Jesus, there were people who criticise her action and was displeased by it, it but that’s exactly the kind of worship Jesus was looking for.

All that we treasure, all that we love, all for Jesus.
This has been my mums posture since she got saved and it’s such a blessing for me to share her God story.

I would love to hear from you how Jesus has changed your lives or your loved ones in the comments section.

And if this post has blessed you in any way, do share.
